2019 Young Elite Award (YEA) Competition

What Is YEA ?

The YEA is designed to encourage the younger generation of ethnic Chinese to achieve high academic performance and global leadership, to develop a strong interest in science and engineering and excel in extracurricular activities and community service.

What is YEA's Goal ?

The aim of the CAST-USA YEA program is to help prepare the younger generation to be globally minded leaders in this very competitive world, and to achieve the greatest positive impact on our society.

Eligibility

Students who have completed the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade study by June 30, 2019, and in the top 10% of the current school academic score ranking.

Specific Requirements

1.High academic performance, demonstrated not only by GPA, but also by taking AP courses, honors curriculum or research projects, etc.

2.Demonstrated Leadership skills

Genius Framework

3.Demonstrated strong interests in science & engineering, and the relationship between technology and society.

4.Demonstrated dedication in extracurricular activities & community service.

Awards & Deadline

YEA Winners: 10 (YEA Certificate and $300 cash prize per recipient)

Honorable Mention: 10-20 (YEA Certificate)

The checklist of the supporting documents

a) A one-page biography that best describes your career goals, academic achievements, special interest in science, engineering, economics, and societal challenges, and extracurricular activities as well as community service.

b) Academic Records: High School Transcript (The transcript should show all coursework and grades, and the overall GPA up to the end of the spring semester 2019. In addition, please list the courses you are taking in the Fall semester 2019, and the name and test score (if available) of the completed AP courses or college coursework.

c) Certificates/ awards, and/or project report (as a power point file, no more than 15 slides, or as a word file, 300-500 words, describe the project, significance, your role, and the impact on your career development) of Extracurricular Activities and Community Services.

d) TWO recommendation letters: ONE is from the Applicant’s school teacher or Guidance counselor; the other is
from the Applicant’s extracurricular project adviser or community service leader. The Applicant should forward the link of the online Recommendation Form https://forms.gle/RK1rv3oJUrJGsRzp9 to the recommenders as soon as possible and ask them to submit the online recommendation before 09/23/2019.

Finalist Notification

Date: 9/30/2019
The Finalists include all YEA award ($300) winners and honorable mention recipients.
Award Ceremony: 10/5/2019 at the 2019 CAST-USA Convention, to be held at Columbia University International House, 500 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10027

The Review Process of the 2019 YEA Applications

All application materials (online Application form, two online recommendation letters, and supporting documents must be received by the 2019 YEA review committee no later than 09/23/2019.
The Chair of the 2019 YEA Review Committee, Dr. Yuying Gosser <OSRSCCNY@gmail.com> will invite scientists and professionals from CAST-USA regional Chapters across the United States to serve as the Judges. Each applicant receives evaluation comments and scores from 3 different Judges.

The YEA Finalists are invited to attend the 2019 CAST-USA Annual Convention, and participate in the special STEM education session at the Convention to meet with distinguished Scientists and tech company leaders for a face-to-face discussion on career development.

Each of the YEA Finalists will receive a YEA Certificate, two-years free membership of CAST-USA, and a free ticket to the Award Banquet of the CAST-USA Annual Convention on 10/05/2019.

Each YEA award winner will receive a check of $300 at the award ceremony. Failure to be present at the Convention will lose the monetary Award.

The parents are required to sign a consent form to allow YEA Finalist’s name and photograph be published in the convention proceedings and posted at the 2019 CAST-USA Annual Convention webpage.
